When a MechE student takes on CS
Working as a UROP in MIT CSAIL's Robotics Laboratory

As someone who is extremely interested in robotics and artificial intelligence, I dipped my feet into AI for the first time by spending my freshman summer at the Computer Science and Artificial Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. I was extremely excited about the project that I worked on, Foldable Origami Robotics, which was a project supervised by the director of CSAIL, Professor Daniela Rus. Going into the project thinking that I would put my machining skills to practice, I was completely shocked during my first day. It was hands on for sure, but it was hands on the keyboard. Within a month, I taught myself MATLAB, Arduino, and C in order to write a visual feedback system for an ICRA magnetic field.
